Having left school at the age of 17, I threw myself straight into the financial markets in the City. I continued for 14 years, working as a Commodities Broker.
Financial markets? Commodity Broker? How has this got anything to do with ‘food’?
I love food. I always have. Slogging away in the City never allowed me the time to enjoy cooking for myself. However, what it did enable, was the indulgence into some of the finest culinary experiences the world has to offer. Networking and building client relationships were always key in that role. For years, I was lucky enough to dine regularly under many of the greatest chefs, such as Heston Blumenthal, Michel Roux Jnr and Tom Kerridge, in their renowned Michelin starred restaurants.
Yet over the years, I felt a shift. My hunger was no longer satisfied from being just a guest at a table. I felt the desire to be on the other side, to be serving up lavish, luxury food for discerning palates. I decided it was time to hang up my suit and tie, and put on my chef whites.
So in 2014, I whisked myself out of the City, and whisked myself into the professional kitchens of Leiths School of Food and Wine – Chef Alex had a nice ring to it!
Now a professionally trained Chef, and having been on both sides of the table, I understand the importance of the relationship between customers and suppliers. I have carefully and selectively built up a strong network, enabling me to source the very best in local and fresh produce, which in turn, allows me to provide you with delicious bespoke dishes, for any event.
